Utilization of Learning Media

The lack of adequate technology in every school and learning in every region in Indonesia is a challenge for the government to build education that is more equitable in all regions. In the East Nusa Tenggara area, the use of learning media is very lacking; only elite schools in urban areas can apply technology-based learning.

The following is the use of media in learning English:

1. Learning Using Audio Media

We can see that education in Indonesia is uneven due to inadequate technology, but there are certain schools that use audio learning to teach English in the classroom. One example is the teacher giving a reading text that contains a missing word so that to fill it in, students have to listen carefully to the audio that is played to get the answer.

In addition, to train students' listening in English, the teacher plays a song and of course songs in English. Then, whatever words the students hear should be written down. At the end, the teacher listens to the same song again and begins to correct whether the words that were heard and written are appropriate or not.

2. Learning Using Audiovisual Media

Learning English with audiovisual media in NTT There are several schools that implement English learning using audiovisual media. For example, if the teacher does not enter the classroom, the teacher will provide a learning video explaining a material, and at the end of the video, the teacher will give an assignment. The assignment will be collected offline at the next meeting.

Advantages and Disadvantages

When viewed from the perspective of the application of learning using audio and audiovisual media, there are advantages and disadvantages.

1. Advantages

Learning in the form of audio and audio visual media has the advantage of being able to increase student motivation in learning. Learning with audio, as previously described, can stimulate student learning motivation because they feel challenged when working on the questions given or when listening to songs.

Learning with audiovisual media, where interesting videos can make students more enthusiastic about learning and increase student learning motivation.

2. Disadvantages

Learning media in the form of audio will make it difficult for students to hear when the native speakers speak faster.

The use of audiovisual media in learning English also has its drawbacks, namely that students do not understand well if they only watch videos that are exposed for a few minutes because the material that will be presented is definitely shorter and will not be discussed freely.
