ICT means using a computer to:
  • Input data: using device: keyboard, voice recognition, bar code reader, and etc.
  • Store data: hard disk, etc.
  • Process the data: sorting it
  • Output information: form of report, chart answer
  • Communicate: to someone else, by means of internet, information email

2. What make ICT is important?

  • ICT is important for daily life which is the use of ICT is to facilitate human life.
  • Benefits of ICT for education:
  1. Simplify learning resources.
  2. Simplify the learning process.
  3. Simplify administration.
  4. Making learning more efficient.
  5. Enhances creativity.
  6. Increase interest in learning.
  • The Urgent of ICT
    Chris Abbott:
  1. There is no sign of technology and social revolution slowing down.
  2. Computer becoming more sophisticated.
  3. The rise of internet.
  • The Advantages
  1. The use of productivity tools, such as ms. word, excel.
  2. The use of interactive teaching packages, such as cd, video
  3. Access to internet and online database
  4. Link to other colleges associate
  5. School based multimedia
  • The Disadvantages
For daily life:
It seems that technology is going too fast, so communication can be done wherever distances and whenever required.

Will computer replace teacher?
The fear is sometimes technology will make teacher redundant, and students will lose the social interaction.

  • Dusek (2006) categorizes 3 characteristics of a technology, namely:
  1. Technology as a tool (transportation)
  2. Technology as a rule (clothes)
  3. Technology as a system (school system)

  • The urgent of technology:
The use of technology is important for human's life.

  • Why Technology Matters:
Anabela (2011) claimed two main variables of technology acceptance by human:
  1. Usefulness indicators of success: to ease activity, productivity and performance increase.
  2. Ease of use applicable to do.
  • How about Technology for Education World?
Technology for education is also important.
           For example:
            - Media
            - Internet communication technology (ICT)
  • The Disadvantages:
        For Daily life:
It seems that technology is going too fast so, communication can be done wherever distances                whenever required.

        For Education:
It is called by educational technology.
  • Advantages of Educational Technology
  1. increase productivity,
  2. more individualistic,
  3. stronger,
  4. more scientific,
  5. faster, and
  6. More accessible.
  • HIRARCHY CONCEPT OF TECHNOLOGY

  • Instructional Technology
Technology is at the top of the curve which is a big umbrella in this hierarchy. Again, technology can be understood from 3 sides according to (Selwyn: 2016) namely, as (1) a human activity using all knowledge and skills to change something for the better.

Technology: a human activity using all knowledge and skills to change something for the better

When technology is used in the realm of education, it is called educational technology.
